Yewon Hwang

AI Researcher

Hello! I am Dr. Yewon Hwang, a postdoctoral researcher at the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST).

I received my Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from KAIST in 2024, where I worked on multimodal learning for sentiment analysis and emotion recognition. Before that, I earned my M.S. at KAIST and my B.S. in Mechanical Engineering at Pennsylvania State University.

My research focuses on how AI can understand people and dynamic environments through vision, language, and sensor data. At KIST, I work on multi-object tracking, sports video understanding, and vision-language models. I also explore multimodal healthcare AI and LLM-based task planning.

My recent work includes Broadcast2Pitch and Broadcast2Pitch++, which reconstruct game states from soccer broadcast videos. My research has been recognized with the WACV 2026 Best Paper award and first place in the SoccerNet Challenge 2025.
